An experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of various adenine derived cytokinins (kinetin and 6-benzylaminopurine) and diphenyl urea cytokinin (thidiazuron) on the postharvest performance of cut scapes of Iris germanica. Flower scapes were harvested with the oldest bud at ‘1 day before anthesis stage’, brought to laboratory under water, cut to a uniform length of 35 cm, divided into three sets viz., kinetin (KIN), 6-benzyl aminopurine (BAP) and thidiazuron (TDZ). Each set of scapes was treated with a particular cytokinin alone or in combination with 0.1 M sucrose. TDZ was effective than KIN and BAP in improving the postharvest life of the I. germanica scapes by 5.4 days as compared to the control (untreated scapes held in distilled water). This was because of the minimum percentage of bud abortion by TDZ application. Cytokinin application resulted in increased antioxidant activity, higher protein and phenolic content, besides a decrease in specific protease activity and α-amino acids in the tepal tissues. Application of TDZ resulted in the maximum increase in the superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase activity in the tepal tissues. The scapes treated with BAP and KIN maintained higher carbohydrate content in the tissue samples as compared to control and TDZ treated scapes. TDZ and BAP application resulted in increased membrane stability because of the decreased lipoxygenase activity which prevented membrane lipid peroxidation. Among the cytokinins tested, TDZ proved to be the promising cytokinin in improving the postharvest performance of beautiful flowers of I. germanica scapes.  相似文献

Circadian variations in the interaction between calcium channel blockers and morphine-induced analgesia were determined by the mouse hot-plate test. Calcium channel blockers diltiazem, verapamil, or nicardipine alone did not display any significant analgesic effect, but all of them potentiated morphine-induced analgesia when injected 30 min prior to morphine at most of the injection times. In terms of percent absolute potentiation, they produced more potentiation during the light period than darkness. Their potentiating effects decreased abruptly during darkness, and around the midtime of the dark period no significant potentiation of morphine-induced analgesia was observed. It is concluded that these fluctuations in the magnitude of interaction between calcium channel blockers and morphine must be taken into consideration particularly in studies dealing with the role of calcium in analgesia.  相似文献

This paper reports the successful excitation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) through 1D metallic grating on higher refractive index GaP substrate. Coupling efficiency (η) of a free-space transverse-magnetic (TM) plane-wave mode into a SPP mode is crucial for many plasmonic devices. This η predominantly depends on the fabrication (milling) parameters and the factors (under- and over-milling) affecting the η is investigated experimentally and numerically. First of all, η is estimated by measuring the transmission spectra obtained through the plasmonic grating structures by varying the slit width (a) for a fixed period (Λ) and the thickness (t) of the gold (Au) film in which the grating is formed. The wave vector of the incident light is tuned to match the wave vector of the SPP, to get maximum η. For an optimum Au film thickness, a slit width of half of the periodicity of 770 nm in the grating device yields a maximum η. Such grating devices support only a fundamental plasmonic mode because the profile/shape of the slit in the grating device is more like a sinusoidal nature. Furthermore, such grating offers intermediate scattering to the incident light and the SPP as well which in-truns couple more incident energy to the SPPs. Moreover, over-milling results in decreased η where the crystalline plane of the substrate is disturbed. Finite element method (FEM) in COMSOL modeling is used to understand the underlying physics. This study is very useful for the development of the device application in real word.  相似文献

Dynamics in various physiological and biochemical aspects were studied during various stages (I—tight bud stage to VI—senescent stage) of flower development in Iris versicolor. Floral diameter, fresh & dry mass and water content increased during flower opening and decreased towards senescence. Senescence was found to be related to the increased lipid peroxidation which was reflected in the decreased membrane stability index towards senescence. This increase in the lipid peroxidation was probably initiated by increased lipoxygenase activity which shot up just prior to the increase in lipid peroxidation. Soluble protein content showed a marginal decrease towards senescence with a corresponding increase in specific protease activity. Sugar fractions and α-amino acids showed a significant decrease towards senescence. Superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase activity increased as the flowers opened and thereafter a significant decrease was registered towards senescence. Catalase activity improved as the flower matures, but decreased prior to flower opening through senescence. The protein patterns from the tepal tissues resolved through electrophoresis showed a consistency in proteins upto the flower opening but a marginal decrease was registered in both high and low molecular weight proteins towards senescence. However, a protein of molecular weight 76.5 kDa showed up during senescent stages which may have a role in flower senescence.  相似文献

Background

Drug resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is a major public health problem in developing countries such as Pakistan.

Objective

The current study was conducted to assess the frequency of drug resistant tuberculosis including multi drug resistance (MDR- TB) as well as risk factors for development of DR-TB, in Punjab, Pakistan.

Methodology

Drug susceptibility testing (DST) was performed, using proportion method, for 2367 culture positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) cases that were enrolled from January 2012 to December 2013 in the province of Punjab, Pakistan, against first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs. The data was analyzed using statistical software; SPSS version 18.

Results

Out of 2367 isolates, 273 (11.5%) were resistant to at least one anti-TB drug, while 221 (9.3%) showed MDR- TB. Risk factors for development of MDR-TB were early age (ranges between 10–25 years) and previously treated TB patients.

Conclusion

DR-TB is a considerable problem in Pakistan. Major risk factors are previous history of TB treatment and younger age group. It emphasizes the need for effective TB control Program in the country.  相似文献

Three distinct glutathione transferases in the liver cytosol fraction of male NMRI mice have been purified by affinity chromatography and fast protein liquid chromatofocusing. These enzymes account for approximately 95% of the activity detectable with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene as electrophilic substrate. Differences between the three forms are manifested in isoelectric points, apparent subunit molecular mass values, amino acid compositions, N-terminal structures, substrate specificities, and sensitivities to inhibitors, as well as in reactions with specific antibodies raised against glutathione transferases from rat and human tissues. The results indicate strongly that the three mouse enzymes are products of different genes. A comparison of the mouse glutathione transferases with rat and human enzymes revealed similarities between the transferases from different species. Mouse glutathione transferases have been named on the basis of their respective subunit compositions.  相似文献
